NextEra Energy Resources has chosen Amonix to supply the concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar system for its 5MW plant in Hatch, New Mexico.

When completed, Hatch will be the largest CPV project in North America, dwarfing in size the continent’s next largest – a 2MW installation at the University of Arizona’s Science and Technology Park. The site’s 84 Amonix 60kW CPV systems are expected to generate enough electricity to power 1,300 homes in the region; El Paso Electric has signed a 25-year power-purchase agreement with NextEra for the electricity generated.

“The Hatch Solar Energy Center demonstrates all of solar CPV’s advantages, from its scale to its reliability to the stability of its underlying technology,” said Amonix CEO Brian Robertson. “Hatch has the ideal conditions for solar energy development, and CPV is exactly the right technology to realise its full potential to provide a steady, long-term energy supply without consuming excessive amounts of land and water.”
