Suncore Photovoltaics, a joint venture between Emcore and San’an Optoelectronics, completed phase I of its construction and has begun producing CPV modules at its new facility in Huainan, China. Suncore was founded in July 2010 and broke ground on its Huainan facility in February 2011. The production facility will now move on to working on completing its phase 2 and 3 construction and business growth plan.
The Huainan facility holds an annual production capacity of 200MW for CPV modules. The company has begun producing modules for a 50MW purchase order that will go towards an installation in Golmud, China.
"Given the current macroeconomic environment for photovoltaics, we believe China is emerging as the most promising market for CPV solar power in the world," said Christopher Larocca, COO of Emcore. Larocca added, "Suncore's initial 50MW purchase order is a testament to the demand for CPV in China, and we firmly believe that Suncore's cost model will allow Suncore to aggressively compete in the photovoltaic market there and around the world. Emcore is very proud to be supplying the highest efficiency terrestrial solar cells currently in production for this milestone project."
