SunEdison will double the size of its project pipeline by building 51 new PV systems in Thailand, reports Bloomberg.

Independent US Government agency Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is contributing US$250 million towards the plaqnned portfolio, which will have a combined capacity of 520MW. The plants will have capacities ranging from 1MW to 50MW and supply electricity to Thailand’s national grid.

”We are proud to be supporting Thailand’s goals of shifting to clean, renewable sources of power,” said OPIC president and CEO Elizabeth Littlefield. “This project allows SunEdison to develop a pipeline of solar projects in Thailand that would otherwise require significantly more resources for OPIC to implement on a project-by-project basis.”

SunEdison’s decision to invest in Thailand is a further boost to the country’s flourishing solar sector; in the past 12 months Conergy, Suntech and Phoenix Solar have all announced or completed installations in Thailand.
