According to The Hindu Business Line, the role of chairman for India’s National Solar Energy Company is to be filled by Dr Anil Kakodkar, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.

The newspaper reports that sources in both the industry and the Ministry of New and Renewable Resources have confirmed Dr Kakodkar’s appointment. The recently-formed and not-for-profit National Solar Energy Company will oversee all solar projects in the country, including those not under the umbrella of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, India’s ambitious initiative that aims to see 20GW generated through solar by 2022.

Mr K. Subramanya, CEO of Tata BP Solar and the Chairman of the Solar Energy Task Force of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), told the newspaper that the setting up of the company was a “very important development.”
