Company to Provide Twelve 1.25 Megawatt Prism Platforms for New Solar PV Power Plant near Fresno, CA

BOSTON, Apr 14, 2011 --

Satcon Technology Corporation(R)(NASDAQ CM: SATC), a leading provider of utility-scale power conversion solutions for the renewable energy market, today announced that it has been selected by SOLON to supply twelve 1.25 megawatt (MW) Prism Platforms(TM) for Pacific Gas and Electric's (PG&E's) upcoming 15 MW ground mount installation near Fresno, CA. The project is part of PG&E's 250 MW Utility Owned Generation (UOG) PV Program, a five-year plan for the construction of utility-owned solar power plants.

SOLON, a turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor, will utilize the 1.25 MW Prism Platform, Satcon's fully integrated medium-voltage (MV) solution complete with factory-integrated step-up transformers, MV disconnect switches, and power conversion electronics optimized for utility-scale solar PV installations for this project. Each Prism Platform will be configured to include Equinox(TM) inverters, Satcon's third-generation central inverter which delivers best-in-class 98.5% efficiency combined with the industry's widest thermal operating range. Equinox is built on the backbone of PowerGate(R) Plus, the world's most widely deployed utility-class inverter solution, with over 2 gigawatts sold worldwide since 2002.

"We partnered with Satcon because of their proven experience in delivering utility-grade power conversion solutions around the world," said Dan Alcombright, general manager and vice president, North America for SOLON. "In collaboration with our leading partners, SOLON is committed to meeting the needs of utilities while reducing total cost of ownership."

Satcon Design Services designed a custom interface for SOLON's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to create a site controller which enables monitoring and controlling critical functions of both the transformer and inverter, including dynamic control of power factor over a wide range. In addition, Satcon will be providing APEX Project Management services through the duration of the procurement, logistics, delivery, and on-site commissioning phases of the project, which is scheduled to go online in October 2011.

"Together with SOLON we are able to drive deeper penetration of large-scale PV with the industry's most advanced and reliable technology building blocks," said Steve Rhoades, Satcon's President and Chief Executive Officer. "This project highlights SOLON's leadership in solar PV plant construction as well as our leadership in utility-ready solar power conversion. We look forward to working together with SOLON to deliver the next wave of large-scale solar to the North American utility marketplace."
